The early jingles on Capital were used for quite a few years. The main
theme and a few other cuts were performed by Blue Mink, a band who were
in the charts during the late 60's and early 70's with songs such as
Melting Pot and Banner Man. They were written by Roger Cook with
Roger Greenaway and orchestrated by George Martin. The female singer
with Blue Mink (Madeline Bell) also sung on the original Radio Caroline
jingles. The main theme is very slightly different in the middle from
the one used on air. The Swingle Singers were responsible for the
acapella cuts plus a few others. Then there were a few jingles from
Christopher Rainbow. The 'Capital (clap) 1-9-4 Hello ooo', 'Well this
is 194-How are you?' and 'Grab a little piece of heaven with Roger
Scott from 3-7' jingles are by David Dundas. The 'open every window,
open every door' jingles are by Sue Manning and were used from about
1978 onwards.
For any frustrated downloaders wondering what the Top 2 were on Roger
Scott's Capital Countdown: 1 was the Beatles with Yesterday and 2 was
Barry White, You See The Trouble With Me.
The 1982 Sue Manning package features the vocals of Mike Smith who was the
vocalist with The Dave Clark 5.
